For when a Gaudí ashtray just isn’t enough.
In a world of omnipresent global brands, buying local is the new luxury. Around the world, young designers are shifting back towards crafting goods on a smaller scale, bringing back traditional skills and creating unique pieces. In Barcelona, the trend is everywhere to be found: mixing creativity, eco-friendly materials and resourcing fair labor, these are four Barcelona brands to keep in mind when looking for original and locally-designed pieces.
Beautifully designed accessories don´t have to cost a fortune. Designer Lucía Vergara founded Après Ski in 2009 and her work uses handmade processes, geometric shapes inspired by the nature and a wide array of vivid colors. Pieces have a vintage and unique look, made with old materials found throughout Europe, from the 40s to 80s. All collections are limited editions and pieces are handcrafted. Après Ski latest collection, Variations, uses Moroccan colors, based in its houses and rugs. Lucía always explores new places, styles and artistic trends in order to create original pieces with affordable prices.
